Beaufort County, South Carolina, is seeking an experienced, visionary, and collaborative Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a key member of the County's executive leadership team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the financial operations of one of South Carolina's fastest-growing and most desirable coastal communities.  The CFO is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the County's budgeting, accounting, investments, debt management, financial reporting, grants compliance, and internal financial controls.  Working closely with the County Administration, County Council, Department Directors, Elected Officials, and external auditors and partners, the CFO plays a vital role in ensuring sound financial stewardship, transparency, and long-term fiscal sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (Master's degree preferred).
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible financial management experience, preferably in local government or another public-sector organization.
  3. Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
  4. Demonstrated experience in governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, debt management, investments, audit oversight, and compliance with federal and state regulations.

 

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, trusted advisor, and collaborative leader with exceptional communication skills, a commitment to public service, and a proven ability to lead high-performing finance teams.
