  • We will discuss current FASB accounting standards’ updates and recent exposure drafts, focusing on the governmental sector, as well as the latest on CDP, ESG and economic events including prospects for a recession and what that will do to local tax revenues. Is there a legitimate conspiracy to destroy the western economies or is this just a perfect storm of world events coming together? What do the accounting standards tell us about the future?

  • In this class we will discuss the basics and then solicit from the participants strategies and procedures for how your organization has first of all made itself aware of the risk and secondly how your organization has responded to this risk. We will cover the latest developments in your carbon footprint as one of the risks to obtaining financing for your bond issues as well as the latest “e” risks to your IT infrastructure and electronic records.

Description: 

  • This class will focus on the red flags of fraud and how to notice if they are occurring in your organization, latest “e” threats and policies and procedures to aid in detection, deterrence and discovery and which of these three is a higher priority. Remember, if you are not managing your risk with sharing it, reducing it or avoiding it, you are blindly accepting it.

Speaker: Mr. Steve Blake, CPA, CFE, CICA
Steve Blake came to South Carolina in May, 1983. He is an honor graduate of Southern College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He is a member of the Special Review Committee of the Government Finance Officers Association, for which he reviews comprehensive annual financial reports for the Certificate of Achievement Program. Steve has extensive experience with audits of State and local governmental entities, agencies of State and local government, non-profit entities, colleges and universities, federal and state grant programs. Steve is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina and the South Carolina Association of CPA’s. Steve works with governmental and non-profit clients in providing attestation and training services. Besides being a CPA Steve holds the following additional certifications: Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Control Auditor and Chartered Global Management Accountant.
